Message from the Organizing Commiteee,

It is a great pleasure to the Organizing Committee to welcome you to Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia for the Third International Symposium on Image/Video Communications over fixed and mobile networks (September 13th-15th, 2006).

After the success of the two previous ISIVC held respectively in 2000 in Rabat, Morocco and in 2004 in Brest, France, we are happy to host the symposium in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia, a beautiful city that attracts visitors and tourists from everywhere. We hope that you will find time to discover this beautiful region and its surrounds.

The ISIVC2006 symposium has two objectives. Firstly, it aims at providing a forum for researchers to present their new theoretical and technical results in the wide field of Telecommunications. Secondly, it is an opportunity to create research collaborations between practitioners that allow them to share knowledge and experiences.

The response to the Call for Papers was satisfying. The committee received 130 full paper submissions from ten countries. We are most grateful to all contributors. A great deal of thanks is due to the all the reviewers that worked very hard and with very tight deadlines in the selection of the final papers. The ratio of accepted papers is around 70%, with at least two reviews for each submitted paper. The Program is structured in 8 oral sessions and 8 poster sessions and we will hear 90 accepted papers and 7 invited papers. We have done our best to assign papers to the most suitable session for the audience convenience. The program is also highlighted by 3 plenary speakers: Prof. Françoise Prêteux, Institut National des Télécommunications d’Evry, France and, Prof. Tho Le Ngoc, McGill University, Canada and Prof. Nicolas Moreau, Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris, France. We are grateful for their commitment to ISIVC2006 and for sharing with us their experience.

We have been lucky to have found a dedicated local arrangements team that has contributed to the success of this conference. We would like to thank of all them. Last, but not the least, very special thanks to all the attendees: their active participation enables the conference to be successful. We are looking forward to meeting you in Yasmine Hammamet and, we hope that you will truly enjoy the experience of this symposium.
